Elaine Belson has been a clinical social worker for 30yrs, including the Army – which she joined at the age of 42. She has a podcast, "It's More Complicated Than You Think,” about the complexities of human problems and how to solve them. A pragmatist at heart, Ms. Belson makes up analogies, idioms, and 3-step strategies to provide solutions that are easy to understand, remember, and apply. She calls these mantras and is working on a series of “Mantra Books” for anxiety, communication, parenting and self-esteem. She has a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's clinical social work. Ms. Belson has worked in a variety of settings, including private practice, community agencies, and hospitals. As a Social Work Officer, Ms. Belson handled domestic violence cases and taught anger management to Soldiers. She deployed to Afghanistan from 2009 - 2010, where she served as XO for the Medical Command and counseled Soldiers. Ms. Belson has also taught psychology at the college level and held several legislative positions. She has her own psychotherapy practice for 15 years.
